Bowling Variations

In normal one day cricket (not in the power plays), bowl to hit your length for the first four balls of each over. Build up pressure early in the over, the batter wants to score, so you don’t let him score for the first part of the over. The wicket taking ball ( the variation ) is typically the 5th ball of the over, if you don’t take a wicket with the 5th ball you bowl a ‘dot’ ball ( hit your optimal length ) again on the sixth ball so that the batter is kept at that end to hold the pressure on the batting team and hand it over to the bowler from the other end. Variation for the 5th ball … Width in the crease: You can either go slightly wider in the crease and aim to bowl a full length for the batter to drive, caught at slip, gully or cover if he chases the ball and plays away from his body. Even more potent if you can swing the ball away. You can bowl an off cutter, like a fast off spinner, outside off stump to spin back and hit off or middle stump … or he mistime

Panicing before bowling

Hello Ali, The reason I think you are having this problem is that you are thinking too much. Keep your mind calm before starting to bowl, take 2-3 deep breathes. Stop thinking about the outcome of the ball (for now). Do not worry about pace. Start slow, do not take a long run-up try to keep it short. First work in line and length. Do not worry if speed is slow, no problem. Do meditation daily, do exercise (Running is must daily also do stretching daily). Do not worry about front foot NO Balls in starting stage, work on run-up line and length only then slowly start correcting your mistakes. Practice daily.

Front and Back Foot

Wide and Full toss

Hello Shariqu, You have to work a lot on your body movement  and ball releasing. You are most probably releasing your ball wrong. Keep calm while bowling, when I first started bowling I had the same problem, plus I used to ball a lot of NO Balls. How did I improve? First, relax your mind, keep calm before bowling. Second run slowly and practice releasing the ball in very slow speed, do not worry about pace now. Practice run up and releasing ball in slow motion. Stay aware at what point you are releasing your ball (if possible record video from batsman end and see the video) find out the mistakes you are doing. Follow run up drill in Pace Bowling Section properly. Do not panic. Try releasing balls from various points (make sure your bowling arm is straight). Keep practicing.

Yorker

Yorker ke liye bahut practice karni padti hai. pehle apni line or length sudharo. Pehle showmotion me balling karke dekho, apni video banao bowling karte samay fir us video me dekho aap ka runup, action kaise hai apni galtiya sudharo. Fir pace pe kaam karo. Yorker daalne ka tareeka Knowledge Zone me hai. Aap ye video bhi dekh sakte ho. VIDEO

Bowling Action and Runup

Hello ravikant, Do the Runup drill in Pace bowling. Read these Quora answers: Pace bowler Spin bowler

How to increase pace

From Quora: Here some points to remember to generate sheer pace: A proper run-up : A bowler must accelerate as he gets closer to the stumps, while keeping both arms close to the body (close levers ensure no wastage of energy). A high jump: The momentum generated by the run-up is transferred to the jump. That's why most genuine quick bowlers - Imran Khan , Brett Lee , Malcolm Marshall - have a reasonably high jump A proper landing: When the front foot hits the ground, the force generated is transferred to the hip before moving upwards. The bowler rotates the shoulder, which uses the force it receives from the movement in the hip. This force is then transferred to the wrist. The result: The force generated from the run-up, the landing, the hip movement, the shoulder rotation and the wrist movement is translated into the speed of the ball. The more aligned the movements, the better the outcome. HINDI Tips Tip by Mohd Amir

Reverse Swing

Image
Hello shoaibakhtr, If a player can bowl above 85mph – or if the ball has aged – this makes it possible for the bowler to “reverse swing” the ball. In simple terms this is exactly what happens – a delivery that is expected to swing away from the batter (an outswinger), instead swings in towards them (an inswinger) – and vice versa. This happens when the seam is angled for conventional swing but this time the rough side faces the batsman. If the ball is bowled fast enough (above 85 mph), the laminar layer goes into a turbulent state before it reaches the seam. The seam actually has a negative effect here and affects the turbulent layer so it separates earlier compared with the bottom surface. Like in conventional swing, there is a lateral force created because of the pressure difference but this time the lateral force acts in the opposite (reversed) direction. As mentioned, there is a critical speed to h

How to bowl googly

Hello Anish, This is the best and easiest explanation I found in youtube. CLICK HERE STEP ONE Hold the ball as if you're about to bowl a normal leg-break. The top joints of the index and middle fingers should be across the seam, with the ball resting between a bent third finger and the thumb. STEP TWO At the point of release, the palm of your hand should be open upwards, towards the sky, with the back of your hand facing the batsman. Your wrist should be 180 degrees to the ground, while the seam of the ball should point towards fine leg. Again, it should be your third finger which does most of the work, turning the ball anti-clockwise on release. You'll probably find it goes horribly wrong the first few times you give the googly a try, but don't give up. As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect. Use a tennis ball to help improve the flexibility of your wrist.
